Customer Reviews of MacSpeech Dictate Speech Recognition with USB Headset/Microphone - Macintosh
I am an architect and have been using MacSpeech Dictate for owner/architect meeting minutes and job visit reports. I am very satisfied. It has made the dictation process much quicker and accurate.
Pretty cool so far!12/15/2008
I bought this product because I'm working on a novel, by hand, and don't want to dictate it myself or pay someone else to do it for me. So far, my experience with the product has been stellar: training doesn't take very long (about 15 minutes) and it understands everything I say. Getting used to dictating instead of typing is definitely a learning curve. But the program has loads of useful features. My favorite is the vocabulary teacher. As a fantasy novelist, my documents are loaded with words that don't exist. But I can drop in previous chapters, select the words I want to add to the dictionary, and after that, the program recognizes (almost!) everything I say. If not, it's easy to switch from Dictate mode to Spelling mode to spell out some of the wierder words. The included headset is comfortable and functional. So far I've only worked within the included software, which is a very basic text editor, with the intention of copying and pasting completed text into Microsoft Word document, in progress. I'll try working directly in Word at some point when I'm more comfortable. So far, it's exactly what I needed!
We bought this for my son to use with his MacBook for school and it has made his writing far easier for first drafts, etc.
Not working on my MacBook Pro yet!4/22/2008
To get started you have to create a user profile - calibrating, speaking test words into the microphone etc. Unfortunately the program quit each time I tried. E-mail response from CS has been very slow. I sent a detailed problem report (from the Console record) a couple of days ago (per their request) but have not heard back yet.
