Will Lockhart comes to a small town to find the man who sold rifles to the Apaches and caused the death of his brother, a cavalry officer. Beaten and nearly killed by cohorts of the arms dealer, he also becomes embroiled with a ranch baron and his overwrought son. Aging ranch baron Alec Waggoman (Crisp), who is going blind, worries about which of his two sons he will leave the ranch to. Into this tension-filled familial atmosphere rides Lockhart (Stewart), a cow-herder posessed with hunting down the men who sold guns to the Indians that killed his brother. Needless to say, the tension increases. Tough, surprisingly brutal western, the best of the classic Stewart-Mann films.
