|It's a whole new ball game as Mario rocks the rim on the Nintendo DS.|
Get that magic touch. There are plenty of basketball games out there, but none with the hands-on control of Mario Hoops 3-on-3. Players use the touch screen to get their game on as they execute tricky dribbles, special passes and sweet shots--all with strokes and taps of the stylus.
Players choose their teams of three characters from the Mario universe and hit the parquet. Power-ups like Red Shells and Bob-ombs can turn the tide as they chase down coins--they will affect the score, so players collect as many as they can as they drive to the hoop.
Whether playing against friends on a local wireless connection, jamming through a tournament or just playing mini-games, there's a mode for everyone.
Customer Reviews of Mario Hoops 3 on 3
mario hoops 3 on 3 review10/13/2006
Mario hoops 3 on 3 for the Nintendo DS, is the first installment of basketball for the Mario sports genre. FIRST off the game play is very difficult with the touch screen. But in the options you can change that very easily to using the control pad and the Y, B, A, X configuration which makes the controls easy to use. (THIS WILL MAKE YOUR GAME PLAY BETTER TRUST ME) the graphics are EXTEREMLY good and music is out standing because the developer is square Enix from the final fantasy series. The game is a little short in the tournament mode but once you beat the tournament mode there is hard mode which you can play. The way you play basketball in this game is intuitive, unique and fun. You collect coins and you shoot at the hoop the more coins you have the more points you get. there are a verity of items and weapons that adds a little twist to the game also each court has different ways that affect the game play for example ice you slip, underwater you go slower, pirate ship therefs cannon balls etc. as you play the game you unlock a verity of characters and different basket balls. Also you can customize a profile (which provides very little use except for changing the look of your basketball). There are different modes in this game there are challenges, tourney, Exhibition and match up. In Exhibition all you do is do a basketball match with computer opponents. You can choose your opponents characters and go head to head in a match (although it would have been nice if you can choose a difficulty setting against your rival). In match up you can battle other people via local LAN and do Exhibition against human player but in order to do Exhibition in this mode the other player MUST own this game. In the other modes the second player doesnft require the game the other modes include: DRIBBLE RACE and COIN HUNTER. In challenges you can practice your basket ball skills. In this mode there is practice special shot and dribble race time trial. In special shot you practice dribbling commands of players who've mastered their special shot. In dribble race time trail you get 100 coins and try to beat the best time to beat this mode (this is challenging in comparison to the other modes). In tourney of course is the tournament, mentioned above. There are diffrent cups including: Mushroom tourney, flower tourney, star tourney and rainbow tourney. And there is a hard mode once you beet the game. The major flaw is the horrible touch screen controls and the fact itfs really short. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF MARIO SPORTS TITLES THIS GAME IS FOR YOU. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD REALLY GRAHICS THIS GAME IS FOR YOU. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU DONT CARE FOR SPORTS OR MARIO.
