Product Overview

After a failed suicide attempt, advertising man Martin Flam (Ian Roberts) has to clean up his own blood while his boss cheerfully welcomes him back from the "looney bin." Enter Dr. Eric Orloff (Matt Walsh), a psychiatrist who doesn't just blur the line between doctor and patient, but obliterates it. Little does Martin know this is the beginning of a three-day odyssey into Orloff's strange, dysfunctional world.

Editors Note
Note Featuring the stars and humor of the sketch comedy troupe THE UPRIGHT CITIZENS' BRIGADE, MARTIN AND ORLOFF is a similarly absurdist and episodic comedy. Martin Flam is an advertising executive with a ridiculous job: to come up with wacky mascots for various corporate commercials. After he attempts to kill himself, he is placed in the care of Dr. Eric Orloff, a glib, seemingly uncaring psychiatrist who leaves in the middle of their first session together to attend a softball game. As Martin begins following him around, demanding that Orloff complete their session together, the doctor goes to increasingly absurd (and comical) lengths to avoid his newest patient. MARTIN AND ORLOFF features supporting roles and cameos by such cult comedians as Amy Poehler, David Cross, Tina Fey, and Jeanine Garofalo.

Review The problem is that the movie is, in comedy parlance, a "bit fest" -- it tries to generate its humor with a barrage of bits, or external gags, rather than letting it emerge organically from the deepening interaction between its two leads.

Review Initially turns the dour field of psychiatry into an amusing, absurdist romp. Unfortunately, the further the film progresses, the more it relies on silliness and triteness for ever-less frequent laughs.
