Do My Floors Have a Waxy Yellow Buildup?
Legendary TV producer Norman Lear (All in the Family) developed this soap-opera spoof starring Louise Lasser as a pigtailed, gingham-frocked housewife beset by a bewildering array of crises. The three-disc set features the first 25 episodes of the groundbreaking series hailed by critics as "hilarious" (TV Guide), "mind-blowing" (NewsWeek) and "television's zaniest show!" (Reader's Digest).

Mass murders, kidnappings and a flasher may be troubling the residents of Fernwood, Ohio. But housewife Mary Hartman (Lasser) has a much more serious problem: Waxy yellow buildup on her kitchen floor. And while her husband Tom (Greg Mullavy) struggles in the bedroom and her best friend, country singer Loretta Haggers (Mary Kay Place), struggles to make it big in Nashville, Mary teeters closer to the edge, desperate to save her marriage, keep her family together and give her kitchen floor a proper shine!

Editor's Note
This cult favorite from Norman Lear (ALL IN THE FAMILY) exposes audiences to the dirty secrets of Fernwood, Ohio, and the even dirtier kitchen floor of the title character. Murderers may wreak havoc on the small town, but Mary Hartman (Louise Lasser, BANANAS) has bigger problems, like a waxy yellow residue on her floor. This soap opera satire features the talents of Greg Mullavey as Mary's husband Tom and Mary Kay Place as country singer Loretta Haggers. This release includes the first 25 episodes of this highly original sitcom.

Montreal Mirror 9 of 10
Set in Fernwood, Ohio, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman--which premiered in '76, featured Louise Lasser in the lead role as a seriously neurotic housewife who constantly appears on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Surrounded by a philandering husband, bratty daughter, slutty sister, flasher grandfather and dumb-as-wood mother, among many others, the show--which was developed by TV legend Norman Lear--operated as a skewering of the soap opera genre and a commentary on American mores at once (it was a precursor to Soap, which was more obvious in its satire)...[Mary Kay] Place knew from the beginning that the show was off the beaten path ("Oh, I felt that this was very different," she says). And the critics and public were quick to catch on, making the show a Twin Peaks of its day. The Village Voice dubbed it "the most disconcertingly funny show ever on TV." - Matthew Hays
