Alex Cross travels to Los Angeles to hunt for a killer more brutal and ambitious than he's ever encountered-- a woman who has it in for Hollywood's hottest players.
FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid detail. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again.
Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? And particularly baffling, how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes? Members of Hollywood's A-list fear they're next on Mary's list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update. Filled with the ruthless and shocking twists that make his fans hunger for more, Mary, Mary is James Patterson's most sophisticated thriller yet.
In the 11th Alex Cross thriller, a serial killer targets women in Los Angeles who pay more attention to their showbiz careers than to their children, and announces their deaths via e-mails signed "Mary Smith." Ironically, psychologist Alex Cross must once again choose his career over his children, because when the FBI calls upon his services to catch the killer, it forces him to cut short a Disneyland vacation with his family.

Through a friend in the industry I was able to get an advance copy of Mary, Mary. To be truthful I had given up on Patterson (even though I have met the man and find him to be a great interview). His five books a year written in collaboration (actually written by others with him stamping his name on them!) Just never did it for me, and his last Cross novel "London Bridges" was way off the mark. Anyway this book is Classic Patterson, think "Kiss the Girls" in La La land. A crisp, fast moving thriller with awesome twists and turns that keep you turning pages right up to the surprise ending! Oh! I also have to recommend the thriller hit "A Tourist in the Yucatan!" Combine this with "Mary, Mary" as a gift to your your favorite thriller lover this Xmas and you can't go wrong!
