FBI Agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family in Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid details. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever been confronted with before. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? Now members of Hollywoods A-list fear theyre next on Marys list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update. *Author: Patterson, James *Series Title: Alex Cross Novels (Hardcover) *Binding Type: Hardcover *Number of Pages: 467 *Publication Date: 2005/11/14 *Language: English *Dimensions: 9.10 x 6.20 x 1.50 inches *Large Print
From the Publisher:
Vacationing in Disneyland with his family when he receives instructions to investigate an actress's murder outside of her Beverly Hills home, FBI agent Alex Cross learns that the attack was the latest in a series of celebrity killings linked to the elusive Mary Smith, who proves more challenging than Alex anticipates. (Suspense)
Annotation:
In the 11th Alex Cross thriller, a serial killer targets women in Los Angeles who pay more attention to their showbiz careers than to their children, and announces their deaths via e-mails signed "Mary Smith." Ironically, psychologist Alex Cross must once again choose his career over his children, because when the FBI calls upon his services to catch the killer, it forces him to cut short a Disneyland vacation with his family.
Author Bio
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.
