Congratulations. The fact that you're reading this means you've taken one giant step closer to surviving till your next birthday. (from the first line)
From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of the New York City subway system, 14-year-old Max leads her feisty "family" on a journey of action, adventure, and soul-seeking in this #1 "New York Times" bestselling series debut.
From the Publisher:
Maximum, the Gasman, Nudge, Iggy, and Fang--genetically-engineered children who are part human, part bird--must rescue their sister Angel when she is kidnapped by Erasers, brutal wolf-like creatures, leading them to New York City where their lives are forever changed. Reprint.
Annotation:
In this high-speed tale of cross-country adventure and intense danger, 14-year-old Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, and siblings Angel and the Gasman have one very unusual thing in common--wings. The six were raised by nefarious scientists as genetic experiments at the oppressive, terrifying "School," where they were each treated to a tiny helping of bird genetics that gave them not only flight, but incredible eyesight and super strength. With help from Jeb, a sympathetic scientist, the six managed to flee, living together in peace and happiness. That is soon shattered when their youngest and dearest member, six-year-old Angel, is kidnapped by Erasers--ferocious, man/wolf agents of the School. Some of the same characters are featured in James Patterson's adult novels WHEN THE WIND BLOWS and THE LAKE HOUSE.
Author Bio
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.
