| Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) was created by Gene Roddenberry as part of the Star Trek franchise. It is set in the 24th century about 70 years after the original Star Trek, and features a new crew with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Worf, on the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D. It premiered the week of September 28, 1987 to some 27 million viewers with the two-hour pilot "Encounter at Farpoint", and ran 7 seasons with 178 episodes - longer than any other Star Trek series. |
