Memron was the greatest company in the world, until the bosses cooked the books and mugged everyone blind. Now the busted ceo rules the prison yard golf course, while a group of ex-employees struggle with the absurdities of starting over from nothing.
Editor's Note
This thinly veiled comedy is an amusing take on the Enron scandal, and revolves around the CEO of a huge corporation who languishes in a prison along with several of his former colleagues.

Memron the movie obscures its obvious influences about as well as the title obscures the company it's lampooning. It's a loose, indie take on the mocumentary genre, made popular through films like This Is Spinal Tap and Best In Show, as well as both versions of the television series The Office. It's a fun genre, and lends itself especially well to character development and quirky situations as it allows for generous background through direct interviews, “candid” behind-the-scenes discussion, and loose narrative. ...read the full review

Variety 7 of 10
Re-confirming Christopher Guest as the most imitated American filmmaker by other American filmmakers, "Memron" is a flaccid mockumentary spoof of the Enron scandal and downsized workers desperate for work. Pic takes many cues from Guest's playbook -- from ensemble-style improv and quirky characters to the one-beat-too-long editing approach. Thesps have a knack for overdoing the mock-comedy, and narrative thread is nearly lost altogether by helmer Nancy Hower and co-writer Robert Hickey. Aud prize at Slamdance won't tweak pic's thin commercial options, but fest interest should be strong. - Robert Koehler
