|The Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite is the second in a series of ergonomically designed keyboards from Microsoft. Its split, gently sloped design allows you to place your hands, wrists and forearms in a natural position for greater comfort while typing. With its improved space-saving design, the new keyboard takes up less room on your desktop and fits easily into keyboard trays.|
Customer Reviews of Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard - USB, PS/2 - 104 Keys - White
All time favorite11/18/2011
This is my all time favorite keyboard. I was using one of the older Logitech ergonomic wave keyboards before switching to the Microsoft's version, and I've been stuck with this keyboard for more than 10 years. It took me a few weeks to get used to the split layout, but once I'm used to it, there's no going back to regular layout. I also like how the 4 directional keys are arranged, instead of the inverted T configuration found on most other keyboard. There is now a black version of this keyboard, which I like more because it doesn't get dirty as easily.
Stopped working after 7 months.11/28/2010
This was a great keyboard for only 7 months. Don't know if it's because of Windows 7 or the keyboard itself, but it just quit working all of a sudden. Otherwise, when it worked it worked great, just plug and and use.
Natural Keyboard Elite11/16/2009
Very nice! I also bought the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 from Best Buy. My wife did not like it as much because the keys were much closer together and lacked the same tactile feel. When I tried to take it back to Best Buy, they would not accept it. Because it was no longer in their computer. My sale was, but the item was not. That was only 30 days ago! Buy.com is much better about that. I have never had a problem returning anything here.
a really good keyboard with a ps/2-usb cable7/31/2009
This keyboard is quiet, comfortable, and good to use on any computer. I bought it for work as a PC technician; I needed to be able to plug it into computers that only had PS/2 connections in the back for keyboard and mouse, but I also wanted to be able to use it with computers that would accept a USB connection (with a USB keyboard or mouse, you can unplug and plug in the device when the computer is running, and it will recognize the device without a reboot). This was a perfect fit. It comes with its own little cable that allows you to choose which connection you want to use--USB or PS/2--which is really handy if you work with older machines at all. This little cable works only for this keyboard and not for all keyboards (though it MIGHT work for other similar Microsoft keyboards out there). It also works much better than the little green USB-to-PS/2 converters you can buy, which work for about half the keyboards out there. I like this keyboard's feel and sound probably a little better than a more expensive one I got for home, which was the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.
Natural Elite Ego Keyboard4/22/2009
I love this keyboard, and yes it doesn't have all those buttons on it that i don't use because i forget about them anyway.I have no cons about it, i love the way it feels wheni type on it. Please keep these on hand because i know i will be ordering more. Love the white too didn't want it in black so it is perfect for me. I think the white is easier to see at nite when u r typing. i WILL RECCOMEND THIS KEYBOARD, THANKS SO MUCH
using microsoft ergo keyboard2/20/2009
Wanted to say that it was a great idea to buy this keyboard. After having problems with my hands and wrists from using a regular keyboard, decided to try the Microsoft ergo keyboard. The keys do have a soft touch, so there is no need to pound the keyboard keys to type, just takes some time to get used to the keyboard after using the standard keyboards that come with all pc's for so long. Have noticed that my hands and wrists are better now that I am using this keyboard. Bought one for home and at work. It was worth the price and BUY.Com came through with a great price and timely shipping. Would recommend this keyboard to those having hand and wrist problems from using a regular keyboard.
The 'Perfect' Keyboard?12/13/2008
Yeah, hands-down, absolutely the best keyboard ever. I write, and 30 minutes on a traditional straight keyboard is tough on the joints. While there are other split keyboards, I have yet to find one that fits the natural position of my wrists to hands to fingers better than this one. I've typed for more than 4 hours straight and my hands are quiet. Brilliant ergonomics. The split also helps with computer gaming, giving you a way to quickly select a separate range of controls. Weighs nothing. Incredibly durable considering the price. The little support legs in the back are its only weakness, and must be treated with kid gloves. I've owned 3 so far, and when they break after much daily use, I must sadly replace them, but each one is completely void of any of the textured surface of the keys by then, so they have a great ROI. Kinda sucks when MS or any other large company stops making a great product, like this one, but luckily you can still get them here. I got 2, and there were here so fast and packed so securely that I thought I ripped them off for the shipping charges...seriously. Buy.com did a great job; I'll be back.
Recommend this ergonomic keyboard12/8/2008
I've used various ergo keyboards, but this has the best touch response. I've tried the later version of Microsoft Natural keyboard (black) and as reviewers often mention, the space bar is quite pesky and has to be hit hard. So I returned my new Microsoft Natural keybd and got the Elite instead. There are some negatives though: (1) the numeric key pad layout is nonstandard and needs getting used to (2) easily fails if you have a spill (as compared to to other keybds) (3) no audio/volume control keys
My Only Keyboard6/18/2008
Because I have had no problems with my old Natural Elite keyboard, I decided to get another one as a backup. Years ago I broke my wrist, but the slant and spread of this keyboard allow me to type pain-free! After receiving the new keyboard, I "scrubbed and showered" the old one and now it's as if I have two new keyboards. If I were really smart, I'd order a third one just in case Microsoft does something stupid like quit making them.
comfortable ergonomic design - great on my wrists. soft touch keys (unlike the microsoft natural ergonomic which requires brute force while typing).
Love it, comfortable, PS/2 or USB--what more do I4/5/2008
Great keyboard, if you like the split ergonomic design. I have had two (one was a dud--I spilled something near it but never saw anything on it and let it dry, but a few keys quit working--no problems with the return except that replacement took a little time). Both had a spacebar that someone else noticed was a little loud, but I really didn't notice it too much. I love the feel of these, and they have worked on every computer I've tried them with. I have a $60 Microsoft Natural Ergonic Keyboard 4000 v. 1.0 also, and I kind of wish I'd just gotten two of this one (the added features to me are not worth $30). What's really handy is the PS/2-to-USB adapter cable that comes with it. Note that this cable is not meant to work with just anything--the keyboard "knows" to use it. I have seen it work with a few different Microsoft keyboards, though, and one of them was pretty old, so that's a plus.
my search is over1/4/2008
been looking for this keyboard since i spilled coffee on my old one. no frills key board just meant for typing. much better than over paying for buttons i will never use. very happy and hope buy.com stocks them for a long time
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite - A11-0033712/21/2007
I purchased this keyboard when I purchased my first computer back in June 2000. I'm glad that I did. I wore that one out and brought another one when I purchased my new computer. It works just as well as any $100 or $150 keyboard out there. And it's far better than anything you can purchased at your local Wal-Mart! The only thing wrong with this keyboard is, you can't get it in black. If color is a problem for you. Microsoft never made it in black. I know because I went to http://www.pricegrabber.com/ and http://www.shopzilla.com/ looking to see if I could find one.
good product good service
My Favorite Keyboard7/3/2007
My fingers get in each other's way on a standard keyboard but glide effortlessly across the keys of a Natural Keyboard and the key pressure is just right. Love it!
GREAT KEYBOARD - WHEN ADAPTED TO IT7/2/2007
Most of the MS hardware is crap. But this keyboard is tops. It takes some getting used to, but once you are adapted, it is hard to go back. Better for touch typing. Better for your hands to avoid Carpel Tunnel. Don't buy MS Mice - they have short life. But this keyboard is worth it. I hope they don't stop making it!!!!
Still the best, wish they would last7/2/2007
I've been using the Microsoft Natural Keyboard for almost 10 years. Over that period, I've had five or six of them -- because after a while, keys stop working.

I've tried all of the competitor keyboards but keep coming back to this one because nothing else even comes close. Other keyboards may have split keyboards angled out for comfortable use but none have the same key action. The Microsoft Natural Keyboard has a very positive-feeling action while others feel "mushy" or vague.

This keyboard doesn't have all of the extra buttons for controlling volume, providing shortcuts, etc., but who uses those anyway?

Even though I replace it every couple years or so, I will keep buying this keyboard because it is still the best.
Small Arrow Keys6/22/2007
While I like the ergonomic style and tactile feel of the keys, the half size arrow keys make this keyboard fall short. Therefore not too long after buying this one, I bought the natural multimedia keyboard and have been happier with that.
This keyboard takes some getting used to. But once you are used to it, it is great. Promotes better typing over long periods. I've been disappointed with MS mice (fail too fast) but the keyboards are great. I hope they don't discontinue this model or ones like it. Once you are used to the ergonimic shape, you don't want to go back to all those flat keyboards!
If you are looking for a ergonomic keyboard that works great without any frills this is the keyboard for you. Great feel to the keys. Plug it in and go. Highly recommend.
Perhaps the best keyboard ever made...6/12/2007
Well, at least that's how I feel about this keyboard that has been around for quite some time now. When these keyboards first came out, I was skeptical of how much difference one would make on my day to day typing. I figured it was some sort of gimmick or fad that was going to one day fade. Oh, how wrong I was! This keyboard has redefined my idea of comfortable typing, and it will do the same for you, if you are someone who never looks at the keyboard when you type. There are a lot of different keyboards out there with the split style key layout, but none has ever felt as comfortable, both in the pressure it takes to press the keys, and the position my hands rest in, as this keyboard. If I had one complaint, it would be that my keyboard is just slightly warped, so that it wobbles somewhat in the upper left and lower right corners. It's not significant enough to warrant returning it, and the weight of my hands on the wrist rest is enough to stabilize the keyboard. It is also much less noticeable when the back legs are extended. Either way, it's just a trivial complaint when compared to how wonderful this keyboard is to use. It's an amazing value here at Buy.com, and worth every penny. I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone who touch-types.
best keyboard i ever used in my life, great for people who type a lot and has made my wrists feel better and i think i type faster now. it fits the way your hands should be. i would buy it again even though it is from microsoft and i am a linux guy.
All Keyboards Should Be Like This4/4/2007
I have three computers at home, all of them now supported by Microsoft Natural Eronometic Elite keyboards. I have had one of them for a number of years and it still works great. If you aren't used to the angled keys, they may feel a little awkward at first, but more quickly than you'd imagine your hands will adapt and soon you will wonder why all keyboards aren't designed this way. Far less fatique with this keyboard. No problems with the installation. Just plug into PS2 or use the pigtail provided for a USB connection. For my most recently purchased keyboard, I paid $39.95 at Buy.com. Since then Buy.com's price has dropped to $33.95, and with the current $10 rebate and free shipping, it's a great deal for $23.95.
well-rounded keyboard from Microsoft10/26/2006
For many years now, the only keyboard I keep going back to is of course the original Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite. Its ergonomic design helps with those long hours writing research papers and the like. With ordinary keyboards, especially the ones on labtops, I just can't stand the fact that I have to be in an uncomfortable position. This keyboard has allowed me to relax by providing a lift, spliting the keys apart in half to allow less bending of the arms. Unfortunately, I've had to spend more than what it's worth on this keyboard. Even throughout the many years that I've used this keyboard in its multiple incarnations, the price hardly ever decreases. This is apparent especially when you want a barebones, no frills ergonomic keyboard without any sort of multimedia buttons or other features I never use. Good keyboard, needs a lower price.
The original "bent" keyboard - great for3/5/2005
I first got one of these keyboards in 1997 after having had problems with wrist and elbow pain. The angle of the keys allows for a more natural angle from forearm to wrist and takes some of the stress off, reducing the occurrence of repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome and lateral epicondilitis. Some of the OEM versions only support PS2 or USB connection, not both...this retail model has the requisite pigtail cable to work with both interfaces. You can use it with either a desktop with PS2 connector or a new laptop which doesn't even have one.
