While I haven't had an opportunity to fully explore each component of the new Office 2007 Professional, I can say that this UPGRADE version installed very easily and without problem. That in itself was very satisfactory. My only disatisfaction is with the price point that Microsoft sets for these "upgrade" versions. I know that they have invested vast sums into producing this major revision, and that the stockholders want to see major returns. However, based on how many current users will be upgrading, I think the price could have been lower...and they still would be very profitable.

Upgrade Installation Smooth

Buy an Apple?

Microsoft so wants to compete with the graphic interfaces designed for Apple. The architecture of my Dell 1505 notebook with Duo (not 2) 1.83 with 2gb of ram is too slow for Office 2007. I have a 100gb (7200rpm) hard drive that is about 45% full that should be sufficient to handle whatever is thrown at it now. So...I'm not sure whether I am reviewing the response of my Dell 1505 to Office 2007 or the product itself. In theory, Office 2007 is a superior product with its completely new design allowing the user to immediately see "in time" a font's characteristics and a slide switch to magnify the view of the document. You will have to relearn the placement of commands. The graphics menu does have a learning curve. Word and Publisher now compete with each other (not sure that's a good thing). Outlook with its Business Contact Manager is quite useful as a project manager. It's a little cumbersome (but that may be just me.) For my purposes, PowerPoint, Access and Excel offer me no new advantages. So...in practice, I am willing to put up with its sluggishness on my computer. However, I upgraded to Office 2007 not because I needed to, but because I hadn't upgraded since Office 2002 and thought that 2007 would not be as buggy. Bottom Line: If you are happy with Office 2003, stay with it or if you choose Office 2007 make sure you have a very powerful computer to have the response you enjoyed in earlier products. Read More
