A Brief Review Based Upon a Brief Time of Use
Since I'm being asked to review this product without having had much time to really use it.... I have never liked to buy the whole Office suite given the price and the fact that I only use Word, so having the chance to upgrade to just the Word component is already a 5-star rating right there. I did find that Word crashed just like I had heard about from the MacFixit Forums, but I did not have to - knock on wood - do anything except to relaunch the program. I did lose all of my work, so performance lost a star. So far, it doesn't seem to be any more or less difficult to use than previous versions of Word (X, 2004) - I found all of the the usual things without having to resort to the Help menu. (I have used Word for the Mac since its first version, and I use Acrobat Pro if the reader wishes to get an idea of the range of my experience in these things. I have used Word on Windows, too. I always have to look up Help for Acrobat Pro.) My overall satisfaction at this point in the game is pretty high. But I don't write for a living. (When I did, I had to live between something worse than a Unix text editor and the comparatively wonderful use of any version of Word.) I currently suffer from a surfeit of word and media programs, and I am much happier with Word Mac 2008 than I had feared. I still have my old Word 2004, but I haven't had to use it since I received my Word 2008.
