Product Overview

Ruth is a mousy secretary in 1942 New York, caring for her invalid mother when not at her workaday job. Arthur is an affable but lonely PFC from Tennessee, on leave while waiting to be sent into battle overseas. They meet in a rainstorm. Get out your handkerchiefs for Miracle in the Rain, starring Jane Wyman and Van Johnson as strangers who meet, fall in love and make plans never to part when he returns from the front. The film beguiles with vignettes of bustling World War II New York. And like A Guy Named Joe, it shines with its sense that those we hold close to our hearts are always with us. "Love never dies," Arthur will say.

ReviewSource The SF, Horror and Fantasy Film Review
Review As a banally sudsy romance this is passable. Its on-screen superfluousness is nicely contrasted with some of the more downbeaten realities of the day - for example the heroine lives in a tenement house, and even director Rudolph Mate's shooting on the streets would have seemed quite radical a move after the artificial exteriors that became the norm for 1930s melodramas. Jane Wyman has a sweet plainness and Van Johnson plays with a dizzyily defiant optimism...Scriptwriter/novelist Ben Hecht also wrote the stomach-churningly pious The Miracle of the Bells (1948), which also featured a central character's coming to acceptance with Catholicism.
