Customer Reviews of Monster Cable iCarPlay 500 FM Transmitter
Lousy sound quality in the big city.2/14/2012
I installed this in my 99 Mercedes just so I could listen to books. It has several frequencies to choose from but none comes in clearly. The audio quality is so bad, I don't even use the device. Maybe if you're in the country with no FM stations in range it would be passable. There's even a disclaimer in the manual to the effect that a personal transmitter will never sound as good at a full power radio station.
It was a good product for the short time it worked. It broke after just a few weeks of use.
I bought this to use in my 2002 S-10 that has no aux input. This works much better than the no-name one I was using. Audio is much better when not processed thru the head phone jack. Like the fact it charges my Ipod Video too. To all that have neg comments on this item....... Get a Life. This item does exactly what it is advertized to do.
iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 compatible!1/7/2012
I bought this on accident thinking it would work with my iPhone, but even the manufactures list that it's only for iPods and iPod touch. Hesitant to open the packaging, I did. I hooked it up in my 99 Saturn's cigarette port and plugged it into my 16gb IPhone 3GS running the latest iOS (5.0.1). Charging worked immediately and my music played surprisingly clear, even in radio dense Chicago IL. This worked so much better than a Belkin FM transmitter that I owned. If you have a cd player with no auxiliary port, this is a must buy.
I'd pass on this one.1/5/2012
The limited number of frequencies makes this thing of very limited use. I happened to have one near me that was OK, but not perfect. The knob is very difficult to turn, and the detents are super vague. Mine finally started cutting out on one speaker after about 4 months and I stopped using it. I still keep it in the glovebox for an emergency charger.
I wouldn't do it`3/7/2011
Other than charging your I product, this is rendered useless. To much static that it is not worth the effort. I wouldn't get it.
Mouster, not Monster, signal strength1/11/2011
Not sure if the transmitter would work better if it had more frequencies, but as it is, it doesn't send a clear signal to any of the 8 available stations. Sound cuts out and has static every few minutes, regardless of where the Transmitter is located in the car. Easy to use, although it does take two hands to rotate the Easy-Twist Tumbler.
