Whenever Dinah Shore set her vocal chords to work, gentle persuasion ensued. Lilting with a downy-soft bounce, her body of recordings contains nary a trace of awkwardness or discomfort. This CD gives us a delicious array of Shore's abilities with a striking variety of musical treatments. |

Many of these songs are quintessential Shore, namely the romance-drenched ballads and torch songs. "Moments Like This" is a lovely song that is a natural for her sensitive trilling. "Yesterdays" is even more effective as her singing gently emotes the moody message without delving into the maudlin. Her sense for the blues is powerful as she makes the mock misery of "Mad About Him" resonate with sultry voicings and a sexy swing. The Latin rhythm of "Down Argentine Way" combines Shore's silken voice with tempo changes, blending divergent qualities in one performance, a specialty of hers. |
