Great Movie, Lame DVD
Mothman Prophecies tells the tale of strange things that actually occured in the late 1960's in Point Pleaseant, West Virginia. It is a great story based on the book of the same name by John Keel. The people of Point Pleasant, over the course of a year or so, report hearing voices and sightings of a large moth-like man. Suspenseful and spine-chilling at times, it is also emotional and dramatic as Richard Gere follows a quest for truth and understanding about the so-called Mothman and a connection with his wife's death. Although it can be criticized as being X-Files-ish, the fact that these things actually happened make it very unsettling. At the end of the movie, you will question your belief in the supernatural. However, the DVD has almost nothing in the way of special features. There's the original trailer (big deal) and some uninteresting music video. I would have thought they'd at least have some kind of documentary about Point Pleasant or something. Anyway, the movie gets a 5 out of 5, but the DVD gets a 2 out of 5.
