Works with Windows XP
I have cable modem and connect to the Internet through a 3COM Ethernet card and my LinkSys home LAN. I was really looking for a modem with voice / Caller ID capability to use with something like http://www.talkingcallerid.com, and replace my Microsoft Clueless Phone, which is bug-ridden, abandoned, and not compatible with Windows XP. I've had the Microsoft phone running from a 2 year-old IBM ThinkPad, which has an internal Lucent Winmodem, but that is neither voice nor Caller ID capable. Since the laptop's PCMCIA slot is being used by the LAN card, I needed an external modem for this application. Originally I tried the CNet USB modem, and found that there's no Windows XP driver for it; I couldn't even get it to work with a Windows Me PC. By contrast, Windows XP recognized this MultiTech modem immediately, and it installed a driver without even requiring me to use the MultiTech CD. It's not often that computer equipment is this hassle free.
