Author Bio
Susan L. Taylor
Susan L. Taylor began working at Essence magazine as a beauty columnist and became its editor in 1981. She has written a monthly column that is known for its spiritual and positive approach and for its openness about her own life. She emphasizes everyday survival and positive relationships. Many of her columns have been collected in IN THE SPIRIT. Taylor grew up in Harlem, where her father owned a shop. Prior to working at Essence, she was a partner in a cosmetics business. Taylor has also hosted a weekly Sunday morning television interview program called Essence. She received her B.A. from Fordham University.
