What's The Point?
What They Did Wrong: · Graphics are no better than they were 2 years ago despite having claimed next generation graphics. · Drivers are more violent and try to wreck you a lot. Even their slightest touch will send you in circles but if you hit them just about nothing happens. And whatever you do, don’t T-Bone a guy. Their car will stick to you like glue. Try to go left or right and their wrecked car will follow you. It’s the most unrealistic thing you’ll ever experience. The wrecks also go into some kind of slow motion, which also adds to the horrible game experience. Maybe they were trying to create a cool effect but it comes across like when a PC gets bogged down and everything gets slow and muddy – Not Cool! · The blur effect also has to go. It was a nice thought when they added it to Nascar ’07 but it really doesn’t work. Basically when you hit a fast enough rate of speed, the edges of your screen get really blurry to simulate speed. The problem is, it can’t determine what’s going fast and what’s going slow. Any image that is in that area will become blurred. So even a car going the same speed as you will become distorted. And the blurring effect is weird. It’s more like an acid flashback than the kind of blur you would expect with high rates of speed. It’s more like that mirage effect you get when you’re looking down the road on a hot day. Get rid of it or make it work better. · The worst thing is they take the adult product brand names off the cars like Bud Weiser and Jack Daniels. I think they should offer a code that lets you play in adult mode so us adults can see these cars instead of the castrated preschool versions. What They Did Right: · It’s more realistic regarding racing into the corners. The older versions would automatically slow you down. In NASCAR ’08, you can pin it and go as fast as you want…you’ll wreck – but at least that’s your choice. · And though I ripped on the wrecking, I did like that the drivers get aggressive. In the older versions, you could smack into everyone and they would retaliate very little. I just don’t like how unfair the balance is. You tap them and they barely wiggle, they tap you and you’re dead! Conclusion: · Lets step it up a notch! I feel like I keep buying the same exact game year after year. When is it going to improve? That’s what disappoints me the most. I like the game overall but I expect to get something for my money – not just the same thing with a new title!
