Author Bio
Milton Meltzer
Milton Meltzer is both a historian and a biographer. He was raised in the United States by immigrant parents who made a determined effort to assimilate into American culture by minimizing their Austrian-Jewish heritage. Several of Meltzer's works, including NEVER TO FORGET: THE JEWS OF THE HOLOCAUST and RESCUE: THE STORY OF HOW GENTILES SAVED JEWS IN THE HOLOCAUST, deal with the experiences of Jewish people. Meltzer's first book, A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE NEGRO IN AMERICA, co-authored with Langston Hughes, appeared in 1956 and was reprinted in 1983 under the title of A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF BLACK AMERICANS. In 2001 he was named the Laura Ingalls Award Winner for his contributions to the field of children's literature.
