From the Publisher:
For a hundred years, the people of Prairie Bend have whispered Nathaniel's name in wonder and fear. Some say he is a folktale, created to frighten children on cold winter nights. Some swear he is a terrifying spirit retumed to avenge the past. But soon . . . very soon . . . some will learn that Nathaniel lives still--that he is darkly, horrifyingly real. Nathaniel--he is the voice that calls to young Michael Hall across the prairie night . . . the voice that draws the boy into the shadowy depths of the old, crumbling, forbidden barn . . . that chanting, compelling voice he will follow faithfully beyond the edge of terror. For 100 years, the people of Prairie Bend have whispered Nathaniel's name in wonder and fear. Annotation:
For 100 years, the name Nathaniel has been synonymous with terror in the town of Prairie Bend. Who is Nathaniel: a myth, a former resident, a ghost bent on vengeance? When young Michael begins to hear an eerie voice calling to him across the plains, could it be the voice of Nathaniel?

Author Bio
John Saul
After graduating from high school in 1959, John Saul went to Antioch College. Six years, four colleges, and at least three different majors later, he abandoned notions of higher education and decided that he would become a writer. He worked a series of temporary jobs while sending multiple manuscripts to various publishers until 1976, when an outline for a novel--his first flirtation with the horror genre--was met with approval at Dell Publishing. The resulting novel, SUFFER THE CHILDREN, one of the first paperbacks to be advertised on television, became an enormous bestseller, though the book was roundly disliked by critics, who were disturbed by its depictions of violence by and against children. This criticism of his work has followed him, as many of his books feature children and teenagers as main characters. Nevertheless, Saul's subsequent books--written on an average of one per year since 1977--have consistently been bestsellers. In addition to his novels, Saul has written for the stage, as well as lecturing at various writer conferences.
