Product Overview

Neroli is a studious, sheltered, American girl who lives in an affluent neighborhood in Wespin, Connecticut. Her father, Bradford, a first generation Ghanaian immigrant, is a neurosurgeon, and her mother, Beverly, also a first generation Ghanaian immigrant, owns her own business. Neroli's talents include debate, ballet, classical singing, and cheerleading. Black students often despise her as a "white girl." In high school, she found camaraderie among white students. She expects that when she gets to Willshire University, her life will be much like it was in Wespin. Neroli has been aware of many of the contradictions in her life, but she has been able to brush them off. She has used clever arguments to hold on to her illusions. The people and events at Willshire do not make it so simple to escape reality through neatly packaged ideas about herself and the world.
