I bought the Netgear DG632 to replace the rather crappy Actiontec GT701-WG that was supplied to me by Qwest. I like internet gaming and the Actiontec model had a bad habit ca. once per day of developing very high latencies (over 1000 ms, sometimes 2000+) and made gaming unplayable until the modem was unplugged and plugged back in. I could also get that latency "decay" just browsing. The Qwest support line even has a "tip" while you are on hold that you should cycle your modem to fix the problem. I suspected it was a hardware/firmware issue and decided to find an alternative, the Netgear DG632.
After several days of using the DG632 I have yet to experience that latency "decay". Installation was pretty easy, though I ended up calling Qwest tech support in order to get the auto-configured PPP password assigned to my account. I could get my PPP ID from looking it up in the setup of the Actiontec before I unplugged it.
What this model does not have in comparison with the Actiontec is 1) a jack for your phone and 2) built-in wireless capability. #1 can be fixed with an old-fashioned splitter at the wall jack (with DSL filter on the phoneline side). #2 can be accomplished with a Netgear WG602 if you need wireless access. The fact that you would need to buy extra gear to match the feature set of the Actiontec is the only reason I ding the value rating. Problem-free performance is more important to me, however, than a feature I was not using. Good job Netgear
