Customer Reviews of Nikon 85mm f/3.5 G VR AF-S DX ED Micro Lens + UV Filter + Accessory Kit for Digital SLR Cameras
Nikkor Micro 85mm VR DX lens is quite excellent for its size weight price and working distance. With VR and a shutter speed between 1/15 and 1/60 closeups up to 1:2 are possible without a tripod with about 60% sharp enough to print. (I use f/8 or smaller aperture for such photos. Ultimately the effect of the VR is to allow you to keep the ISO at a reasonable level while having DOF and no camera shake.) On a tripod closer (real macro) shots can be taken past 1:1 and results are comparable to other Nikkor micro lenses with essentially all sharp enough to print. Lens is plenty sharp stopped down to f/11 and even f/16 for greater DOF.This lens is not as pretty as say the Nikkor Micro 105mm VR in terms of barrel finish etc. Also it's limited to DX of course. However its size weight working distance and price more than make up for those very minor issues for me. Like a tripod the best macro lens is the one you have with you. Buy this product without hesitation.
