Released in 2006, the Nikon D80 was Nikon s follow up to its successful predecessor the D70, both of which are Nikon s competitive response to Canon s entry level DSLRs the Rebel XTi and XT. The Nikon D40 and now the D40x were also recently introduced 2006 and 2007 respectively and these now constitute Nikon's primary entry level DSLRs priced more closely to the XT and XTi.
