In 1962, his illustrations for THE FOX WENT OUT ON A CHILLY NIGHT earned a Caldecott Honor. Spier won the 1978 Caldecott Medal for NOAH'S ARK, which he both wrote and illustrated.
From the Publisher
Annotation The story of Noah, his family, and all those animals on the ark, told without words but very colorful and detailed pictures. Lots of funny touches point out that Noah's family had an awful lot of work to do taking care of a boatful of noisy, rambunctious animals. Winner of the 1978 Caldecott Medal.
Editors Note The bee and the fox, the sheep and the ox--two of each kind trudged aboard Noahs famous vessel. Peter Spier uses his own translation of a seventeenth-century Dutch poem about this most famous menagerie. A Caldecott Medal Book, The American Book Award, An ALA Notable Children's Book, A New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year (1977), The Christopher Award, International Board on Books for Young People Honor List.
Editors Note 2 The author uses his own translation of a 17-century Dutch poem about the most famous menagerie. Sparkling, fun-filled, full-color illustrations. Caldecott Medal winner.
