I purchased this refurbished Nook 3g for my son for Christmas. he'd played around with the Kindle, iPad, Sony eReader, and Literati and decided this was the one he wanted. Its been great. We've had no problems and he has over 75 books on it so far, many study guides that he'll use later when he reaches high school and needs to begin prepping for college entrance exams (he's only 10, but very advanced.) I realized when he began reading chapter books in second grade that eventually the weight of his library books & school books would be extreme & this was the perfect answer. He can now borrow books from the library that are in epub format, download and carry as many as he wants with him. I couldn't have found a better product for him or anyone else who loves to read.

I shopped all the different e-readers before buying the Nook. Here is why I LOVE my Nook: 1) TONS of books online @ Barnes & Noble at MUCH LOWER prices than Amazon. 2) FREE LIBRARY BOOKS. 3) Free books @ Barnes & Noble. 4) Audio player - I can listen to music or podcasts on the Nook. 5) Basic web browser. Now, it's nothing like a tablet but I can check email or view websites. I passed over the Kindle for this simple reason - you can only buy books on Amazon. They can charge whatever they please, because you have no other option! The Nook will display several different types of e-book formats - check out the webpage of you favorite authors or publishing houses.

Great EXCEPT for KIDS

I really like my Nook. The interface is quirky (buying books is always a bit frustrating, and the browser is hysterical).. but actually reading a book is a good experience. I bought one for my 12 year-old son without realizing that you HAVE to put a credit card into his online account before he can get *any* books, AND there's no way to control what get's spent. Customer support says "Yes, that's true. You need to talk to your son and tell him not to use more than you want him to".. *Seriously?* Having the Nook with no parental controls makes it a complete failure for kids.
