Annotation:
Romance and a murder case so cold it's frozen are the focus of this novel by bestselling Nora Roberts. Nate Burke, a Baltimore cop still recovering from the death of his partner, begins a new life as police chief in the small, icy town of Lunacy, Alaska. Once there, he is faced with a long-unsolved death and the loss of his heart to the victim's daughter, beguiling bush pilot Meg Galloway.
Author Bio
Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts didn't become an immediate best-selling author, but once she sold her first novel, she never looked back. A mother of two small children at the time, Roberts began writing in 1979 with a number-two pencil and a spiral notebook. She wrote sporadically while her two sons were at school, a schedule she maintained long after they had grown up and gone to college. Two years and several manuscripts after her initial attempt, her first novel, "Irish Thoroughbred", appeared, the first of over 100 novels she would write in the following two decades. While having dabbled in many of the genre's forms, Roberts has found most of her success writing contemporary romances flavored with both suspense and adventure. The youngest of five children, Roberts grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1968, she married Ronald Aufdem-Brinke, the father of her two children, but divorced him in 1985, the same year she married her second husband, Bruce Wilder.

Praise

Kirkus Reviews
"Jack London, move over. The Queen of Romance has you in her sights....Original characterization, brisk pace, and a great feel for the grandeur of the setting--not to mention a fabulously tough young heroine who puts her vapid chick-lit sisters to shame--add up to a wonderful read. Romance will never die as long as the megaselling Roberts keeps writing it." (starred review) 09/01/2004

Publishers Weekly
"[A] richly textured novel that captures the intimacy of smalltown police work, the prickliness of the pioneer spirit and the paradox of a setting at once intimate and expansive, welcoming and hostile, indisputably American and yet profoundly exotic to those in the lower 48." (starred review) 09/06/2004

Romantic Times BOOKclub
"The awe-inspiring Roberts picks the breathtaking and unforgiving backdrop of Alaska for her newest romantic thriller....Meg and Nate are two extremely complex and captivating characters." - Jill M. Smith October 2004
