| Following in the footsteps of such celebrated L.A. girl bands as the Runaways and the Go-Go's, Go Betty Go specialize in high-energy punk rock with a Latina twist. The one-two punch of the album's ferocious opener, "Saturday," and the band's classic slice of West Coast punk hedonism, "I'm From L.A.," provides not-so-subtle clues to the rest of NOTHING IS MORE's sonic palette--simply put, these girls love to rock. Pogues accordionist James Fearnley's guest appearance deftly colors the oddball "Pirate Song," but Go Betty Go's debut is mostly a riotous outburst of punk guitar power, with slamming double-time drumming propelling the band's chunky guitar attack on irrationally exuberant tracks like the streetwise "Get Out" and the anthemic, punk-metal "Runaway." | |
