Customer Reviews of OCZ Petrol 128GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive (SSD)
I have a 15-inch Macintosh unibody laptop (mid 2010) running OS X 10.7 "Lion" with a 500G internal hard drive. A friend put a roughly 120G SSD in his, and put the old HD in place of the DVD-ROM using an adapter you can find on Amazon. (He put the "superdrive" in an external USB enclosure, also available on Amazon.) (I decided I like having an internal DVD drive.) After research, I bought a $12 2.5" USB SATA enclosure and put the SSD in it. I have OS X on my "Time Machine" external backup drive. After cleaning up my internal drive to get rid of junk (using free program "Disk Inventory X" to find big wasteful files,) I booted from the backup drive so my internal drive was static and could be copied to SSD. Then I cloned my internal drive to the SSD using a program I bought called SuperDuper (which has always performed well for me.)
Failed Rather Quickly4/23/2012
Drive failed within a weekend's time. The only good thing I can say about this drive is that in the RMA process with OCZ, they are sending me a much better drive(the Agility 3 120gb)!! So I am getting that one for a cheap price. They definitely have some bugs to work out with this one. ANTOnline did a good job with shipping it to me, I must say! Beware of this drive though!!
Cheap and Worthwhile upgrades.4/11/2012
Bought 2 of these as they are the first SSD's I found at a price Im not in total shock by, however the reviews werent great, but I figured I would take the chance. These were both dropped into older Core 2 Duo laptops to breath a little more life into them and with 1 running Windows 7x64 and the other Windows 8 x64 (Preview) I have been INCREDIBLY impressed with the performance of these over the 7200RPM drives that were there previously. Everything opens nearly instantly, no 1-4 second waits!!
It worked for 2 weeks, then failed. Refused to replace , since UPC code was taken for MIR. Went to OCZ to replace it, 3 weeks has passed since the failure, still without HDD.
