Small size big features
The digital SLR's I own have full-frame viewfinders that leave no room for a built-in flash. The FL-14 fills that gap well. It's small size makes it an easy carry in the gadget bag and although it uses only 2 AAA batteries the recycle time is short (better than the Olympus FL-36). Output is that of well a built-in flash (GN 14 hence the name). Photos in the 6 - 18 ft. range are what it's designed for. Don't shoot a wedding with it. There's no tilt/swivel so you can't bounce it (unless you get the remote cord & mount it on a bracket). It does feature TTL for Olympus cameras and auto and manual modes for everything else. The one feature I would like to see is FP-TTL so it can be used as a fill flash outdoors at shutter speeds in excess of 1/160 second but it's compact size may not make that possible. I did pick this up on sale from Cameta so the price I paid was well worth what I got. If you're looking for something more versitle that a standard built-in flash for your Olympus without the bulk of a conventional hot-shoe unit the FL-14 is a winner.
