Product Overview

A 22-year old gifted musician seeks inspiration and retreat from his classical studies after the tragic death of his little sister. Tommy Matisse leaves London's Royal Academy of Music for his hometown of Melbourne, Australia and discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Alysse, was not only with his sister the night of her death, but that she too is caught in the world of club music and drugs. Angered and confused, Tommy beings to find solace in the same scene that killed his sister. However, just as he thinks he's found salvation, another tragedy threatens to destroy his music and his spirit.

Review Apparently in Melbourne it's still 1991. And Manchester, UK. That's the vibe on display, at any rate, throughout this earnest, soulful, and jarringly melodramatic rave-culture love story, which plays like a greatest-hits package of a Down Under version of the old ABC Afterschool Specials...Director Currie has a certain visual flair that lends itself to the frequent scenes of club-hopping debauch, but with a story that feels ripped from the pages of whatever they call Tiger Beat on the bottom of the world it's all quite annoying, although, that said, no one can say Currie's film hasn't got its beat in the right place.
