Step up to 7.1-channel home entertainment with the Onkyo stamp of quality. The HT-S5400 gives you the flexibility to harness the two extra front-height channels of Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Now movies, games, and music come alive with atmosphere and realism. When it comes to set-up, Audyssey 2EQ ensures the surround soundstage is adjusted to the proportions of your living room. And thanks to the system's HDMI functionality, you can take advantage of Onkyo's convenient overlaid on-screen display to adjust settings with a minimum of fuss. Naturally, the receiver's four HDMI inputs also handle 3D video and high-def audio from Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
This unit has great sound and is easy to set-up. All my connections are now HDMI so it was just a matter of plugging in each component to the back of the receiver. Even connecting the speakers was a no-brainer - each one color-coded. I have this unit in a small den so having 7 speakers may be too much.
My Onkyo System Sounds Great9/9/2012
I'm having such a good time with this system. It has the power I need and more since I have a fairly small living space. I have absolutely no complaints about the quality or the sound. My music sounds great with All Speaker Stereo and movies are a blas to watch with the excellant surround sound. There are almost too many choices for surround sound. I'm still experimenting with the different modes of operation. This is a great product.
Overall, I'm very happy with this system, however I really wanted to give it a 4.5 rating. - Sound quality is very good, but finding the right sound mode for a source is imperative. - Bass is incredible, I can feel the vibrations clear across the house when bass rich music is playing. - LOTS of input options, I could hook up every piece of AV equipment I've ever owned. - Lots of different sound modes to get a particular source sounding the way you want - Audyssey was easy to use to get sound settings configured for my room and speaker setup I only have three disappointments with this system, but they're pretty minor. - It does not up convert non-HDMI video inputs to HDMI which I hadn't thought of when buying this and wish I had. - The Subwoofer gives off a quiet electrical hum, like power lines or old fluorescent lights. - OSD only works with HDTV resolution signals 480, 720, 1080. Only bothersome due to my projector being 1280 x 800
Great product for the cost4/22/2012
Overall this is a great product when considering the cost. I think the sound could be a little better but it is certainly good enough for me. The cost is great. The best part about this system is the receiver. It as many hdmi and usb inputs for future 'upgrades' and it works with ipods. I have tested the 3D bypass and it works without any problems along with audio return. I am using it with a samsung D7000 LED TV and 3D bluray, direct tv hd receiver, and a computer.
Very happy with it. Great bang for the buck. Have had it a few months - still have not even taken advantage of all of its features (just using defaults) and still content.
Onkyo is wrong.4/6/2012
I wish to qualify as excellent audio system. but I think it is wrong to adhere Onkyo surround speakers of lesser quality. I have a old home theater system onkyo HT-S320. excellent sound. Connect two-way surround speakers from my old HT-S320, to the new HT-S5400 and its sound is of high quality. Recommend it to Onkyo surround speaker change in two ways. their Ht-s5400.
A nice powerful system4/5/2012
I've never owned a Onkyo system before, but let me tell you, is nothing to regret. you would love it too, lot of a cool features, very good for a blu-ray movies.
great sound, great price... no problems.....enjoying it....
Really Nice and easy to set up.3/22/2012
This is a very nice system and the sound is great. It was easy to install.
Great receiver, average speakers3/19/2012
The receiver is fantastic. Lots of HDMI inputs, love the 7.1 option of having two front 'high' speakers, and the Audyssey setup mic makes getting the surround sound perfect WAY easy. The speakers are nothing to write home about, but I was replacing another receiver, and already had much better speakers to use. The speaker wires that come with the unit are also pedestrian, so I would recommend upgrading those as well. Radio Shack will have what you need.
Awesome product!! Ta da.....3/12/2012
feature I love are USB, Audissy, EQ theatre sound, bass and surround quality. Goes well with my interior and remote controls most of the parts (my bluray + google tv + tv + radio + ipod). For this price, 7.1 is not a bad deal at all.
love this iteam2/28/2012
this is the best home theater i ever brought. very nice, great sound
This unit has great sound and is easy to set-up. All my connections are now HDMI so it was just a matter of plugging in each component to the back of the receiver. Even connecting the speakers was a no-brainer - each one color-coded. I have this unit in a small den so having 7 speakers may be too much. (I may go with the 2 high speakers in front.) The sound is terrific; watching the news the anchor was talking about an upcoming story and they were showing a clip and the sound from the clip came out of the side speakers! Outstanding!
less than a week after setup problems started12/28/2011
HDMI ports started having problems less than a week after setup. Easy to setup color coded. First picture started blinking out for HD channels, changed HDMI inputs and now sound is muffled for HDMI port. able to use composite video but bought for HD
