great toddler book

by Hektor's mom on 11/22/2005

Let me start with a short description of this book. There is no plot or story which, for an 18 month old, can be a plus. The book is a collection of simple words ("first words") and "action" pictures to depict them. For example, "dog" has David throwing his Mac'n'Cheese on a Westie and saying Oops! My son absolutely loves looking at the pictures and thinks our performance while we read the book to him is just hilarious. This is one that he picks out for us to read and will often pull it out and "read" it himself. Read More

Author Info
David Shannon
Author and illustrator David Shannon holds a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design. He has illustrated the works of such authors as Isaac Asimov, Robert D. San Souci, and Jane Yolen. One of Shannon's most popular works is one he both wrote and illustrated--the picture book NO, DAVID. This book was inspired by events from his own rambunctious childhood; in fact, he wrote what was to be the first draft of this book when he was still a child--the text consisting solely of the two words he knew how to spell at the time: "no" and "David."
From the Publisher
Annotation This charming board book concentrates on the new words that fearless, excitable Diaper David has learned. Beginning the day with a striped "ball," and moving onto a mac n' cheese covered "dog," the smiling, messy toddler also learns that he likes to "eat." Plowing his way through the day and into the afternoon, David acquires a beginner's vocabulary and has a good time. With animated, painterly art.
Editors Note Whether learning new words or taking a bubble bath, David makes a fun adventure out of everything he attempts to do, but always finds hugging his Mama his most favorite activity of the day!
Editors Note 2 David speaks new words as he goes through his day.
