finished strong, hands held high, advancing with that familiar, intense frown across his brow. This was the sweetest experience he's ever had in any arena. He had knocked out a disbelieving television audience who erupted in hysteria as the charismatic boxing superstar finished the final soaring notes of the classic ballad "Amor De Los Dos" on the top-rated syndicated Spanish language television show, Cristina. "Most people had never heard me sing, so they couldn't imagine what would happen," Oscar remembers. "Since I was a little boy I have always wanted to record an album. I used to listen to my mother sing around the house, every hour of the day, listening to her singing ballads -- very romantic music. When I was nine or ten years old, I found out that she had been singing professionally before she met my father. After that, I recall us singing together around the house every day. We would sing Spanish songs, especially those by her favorite singer Juan Gabriel." As a teen Oscar's taste in music broadened. "I listened to a lot of rock and heavy metal; Journey, the Doors, Led Zeppelin. And I was always listening to Frank Sinatra." He would sing at local restaurants (often with a Mariachi band) and at parties thrown by his family and his friends. His voice always made him the center of attention and he never failed to impress those who heard him. "A person is either born with talent or has to work very hard every day to get where he wants to be. I am fortunate that singing comes very naturally to me.
