Netflix playback quality is outstanding, surpassing that of standard DVD
Had some problems3/28/2011
I've had the following problems with this unit. 1) I could not make connections with an ethernet cable in order to update the firmware which was recommended. Messed up two CD's in trying to download the firmware from the Panasonic site. Finally got it just before their tech support shipped me one. 2) Need a Panasonic receiver in order to access the internet. 3) Manual is not that easy to follow. 4) Screen dims intermittently when watching both DVD's and Bluray disks. Tech support had me make recommended settings So resolution is pending. If the screen dimming problem is resolved my recommendations would probably be higher.
Just what the doctor ordered1/4/2011
I have been looking at the Panasonic B-ray to match up with my Panasonic 46" Plasma. It was a steal for $97, and Paul's TV hit another home run with me. Free shipping was a bonus. The VIERA Link works great and makes life easier on the family. Picture quality is good. Digital audio out & ethernet input are a bonus.
Just what I was looking for1/2/2011
I've had it for a week and, for $97, I couldn't ask for more for stepping up to Bluray. I was looking for a Bluray player that had Netflix and and ethernet jack and this fit the bill perfectly for the price. It seems that most network ready Bluray players are going to 'WIFI Ready' which means you have to purchase a WIFI adapter separately, and they are dropping the ethernet port to increase revenues. So this one was just what I was looking for before ethernet ports disappear completely on Bluray's. My only gripe is the remote control. The navigation controls (which are used the most) are at the bottom so I am unable to use only one hand to control it. And I hope they add more options to Viera Cast.
Satisfied - All as Promised12/5/2010
Yes, you have to read down the page to realize that WIFI ready is not Wifi capable. I've seen this from multiple manufacturers. One you get past this, and plug into a "hard wire network" it works great and delivers as promised.
False specification posted10/4/2010
One would think that "WIFI", "YES" in the specs posted on the buy.com website means that the device supports WIFI. Unfortunately, it doesn't. One can purchase an OPTIONAL additional adapter for $80 to add wireless networking capability, but then again one could spend $45 on a generic WIFI bridge suppoting four devices and do without the overpriced USB dongle adapter the manufacturer is selling to support this one. I am somewhat disturbed that after repeatedly reporting this misstatement of specifications to buy.com customer service, it has not been corrected.
Arrived quickly, firmware update was fast and easy, picture quality is excellent, and the menu interface is easy to configure. Set up net ficks in just a few minutes. Have FIOS so no speed issues.
Best for the Price5/3/2010
See no reason to spend more for a Blu-ray Player, and Blu-ray is the way to go for HDTV's greater than 50 inches.
