Customer Reviews of Panasonic LUMIX® DMC-TS20 16.1 Megapixel Digital Camera, Orange
DO NOT BUY - NOT WATERPROOF1/14/2015
I purchased this camera last year as a Christmas gift (11/27/2013). Used it a few times during 2014 but never in or under water. Took it on a trip to Mexico for Christmas 2014. Used it in the pool for maybe an hour and everything seemed fine until the display went out. It was flickering with a bunch of lines through it and eventually was just white. Contacted Panasonic support via their website and all I got was a pre-canned answer saying that if it was within the 1-year warranty they would fix it but otherwise I would have to pay for the repair. This is unacceptable since the camera is barely out of warranty and it was the first time I had gotten it wet. If I could give zero stars I would and the same for Panasonic customer support. I sent the camera to Panasonic the same day I returned from Mexico. They just sent it back saying it is out of warranty and quote $200 for the repair. I could buy a new camera for that amount. This is for sure the LAST Panasonic product I ever buy. I should have stuck with Canon like all my other AV/photo/printing/scanning equipment. They support center tells me that they do have a 30-day grace period to the 1-year warranty, however, they go by purchase date and the date they receive the defective product (shipped 12/29/2014, rec'd 12/31/2014). Never mind that I purchased from Panasonic Direct and the camera was delivered on 12/5/2013. Never mind that I contacted their support center immediately while on vacation in Mexico on 12/21/2014 when I noticed that equipment failure and I have an e-mail confirmation of my case. They are basically splitting hairs over what they say are 34 days and say are 16 or 26 days depending on how you count.
Seems to work great, although I haven't field-tested it yet for water resistance. Nice compact size, definitely a better option for taking photos in risky situations where you wouldn't want to use your smartphone. It's inexpensive enough that I won't cry if it gets damaged. Item doesn't come with an SD memory card. You're still able to take pics using internal memory but seems like you'd expect a cheap little included card to make it easier to bring pics to the store to print.
Good Price vs. Functionality balance.8/14/2012
Other cameras offer better image quality and video for this price but the other cameras are not rugged/waterproof. You can get better ruggedness/waterproof features with better image quality but then you are looking at a more expensive camera like the DMC-TS4 (almost double the price) That being said I am giving a 4 for performance and overall satisfaction because of the poor image quality and lack of 1080p video. I am sure the price point is a limiting factor but I think Panasonic could have gotten these features without too much additional cost, if any at all.
