Ethernet end-to-end has been proven to be one of the lowest cost solutions, whether measured from a first cost - shown to be less than half of ATM-based solutions - or from an operational expense viewpoint - plug 'n play is the norm. As a result, Internet Protocol (IP) solutions are rapidly finding favor with service providers. The EtherLoop Enabled BitStorm 2400 IP DSLAM uses Ethernet as its technology foundation. The BitStorm 2400 can be deployed in many configurations, which make it the perfect solution to increase subscriber coverage and reduce operational expenses. The BitStorm 2400 EtherLoop ports are aggregated with an integrated layer 2+ Ethernet Switch to the GigE uplink and stacking ports. Its low profile, flexible rack/wall/table mounting and stacking capability allow for deployment in tight spaces, such as small equipment rooms or closets. Up to seven additional units can be added as the number of subscribers grows, for a total density of 192 subscribers. Since the stack functions as a single switch sharing one or two WAN uplinks there is an inherent fault-tolerance if a stacking cable or middle unit fails. The BitStorm 2400 supports advanced broadband applications such as IP TV and business broadband. Spectrum Manager Video Protect assures video will play in binders full of customers. Multicast IGMP Snooping with tunable parameters adapt to video components used in broadcast systems and assures flawless channel changing. Data Rate Limiting, 802.1Q VLAN Tagging and 802.1D/p Priority Queuing are other noteworthy features required to provide a full range of services.
