| "New York Times "best-selling author Iyanla Vanzant recounts the last decade of her life and the spiritual lessons learned--from the price of success during her meteoric rise as a TV celebrity on Oprah, the "Iyanla" TV show (produced by Barbara Walters), to the dissolution of her marriage and her daughter''s 15 months of illness and death on Christmas day. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Iyanla shares why everything we need to learn is reflected in our relationships and the strength and wisdom she has gained by supporting others in their journeys to make sense out of the puzzle pieces of their lives. |
Annotation:
Iyanla Vanzant has had an enduring career since the mid-1990s as a motivational speaker, inspirational writer, television and radio show host, spiritual coach, and director of Inner Visions Institute for Spiritual Development. This brave book, written during a period of intense mourning, describes Vanzant's pain over losing her adult daughter to cancer. At the same time, it's a meditation on loss and healing, and an inspirational tract for anyone who is going through a painful time in his or her life. Tough, tender, and even occasionally funny, this book is meant to provide comfort and strength.

Author Bio
Iyanla Vanzant
Iyanla Vanzant grew up in Brooklyn, New York and had what might be called a troubled childhood. She suffered abuse at the hands of men, including her husband. Her life changed when she enrolled in Medgar Evers College. After graduating summa cum laude, she entered Queens College of the City University of New York. She received her doctorate from Temple University and is an ordained Yoruba priestess. A prolific author, her books have appeared on both the New York Times Best Seller list as well as the Blackboard list for notable books on the African American experience. A protege of Oprah Winfrey, Vanzant appeared frequently as a guest on Oprah's television program--and was signed, in 2001, to do her own show on ABC. Vanzant leads popular workshops and seminars centered on the topic of individual empowerment, and heads a life-coaching network of spiritual practitioners called Inner Visions.
