Harlan Ellison, one of the Grand Masters of science fiction and a multiple Hugo-, Nebula-, and Edgar Award-winner, returns to his roots with the graphic novel, Phoenix Without Ashes. The year is 2785, and Devon, a farmer banished for challenging his community''s Elders, discovers a secret that changes everything he knew about the world, leading him on a quest to solve a mystery beyond his understanding before his entire world is destroyed in a cataclysm.
From the Publisher:
When young Devon is forbidden from marrying his beloved by the Elders of the agrarian Cypress Corners community, he begins to question not only their authority, but why the sky is metal and the ground is not, and other troubling questions.
Annotation:
Ellison originally created the story behind this novel for a screenplay and television series for 20th Century Fox. Disappointed with the small-screen result, Ellison turned the screenplay into a novel with the help of Edward Bryant.
Author Bio
Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison is one of the most prolific and outspoken writers in America, having written and/or edited more than 70 books, and written over 1,700 shorter pieces. Commonly thought of as a science fiction writer, although that only makes up a small percentage of his published work, Ellison has written mainstream fiction, horror, screenplays and teleplays, criticism, newspaper columns, and he has even hosted call-in radio shows. Associated with the development of American science fiction in the 1950s, Ellison was a roommate of Robert Silverberg when both were working at New York pulp magazines writing short stories for a living. Early on though, Ellison showed interest outside of the field of genre writing--his first novel, RUMBLE, was based on his experiences as a member of a New York street gang. He is known to movie audiences as the source for the post-apocalyptic thriller A BOY AND HIS DOG--based on his 1969 Nebula Award-winning short story--and the box-office smash THE TERMINATOR--which was based on two of his stories, "Demon With A Glass Hand" and "Soldier". Still holding a strong fan base in the science fiction community, Ellison is one of the few writers with an sf background who has achieved critical success in non-genre writing.
