Product Overview

Hollis Woods has been in so many foster homes she can hardly remember them all. She even runs away from the Regans, the one family who offers her a home.
When Hollis is sent to Josie, an elderly artist who is quirky and affectionate, she wants to stay. But Josie is growing more forgetful every day. If Social Services finds out, they'll take Hollis away and move Josie into a home. Well, Hollis Woods won't let anyone separate them. She's escaped the system before; this time, she plans to take Josie with her.
Yet behind all her plans, Hollis longs for her life with the Regans, fixing each moment of her time with them in pictures she'll never forget.

Author Info
Patricia Reilly Giff
Well-known for her popular series of books about the students of the Polk Street School, Patricia Reilly Giff is the author of over 70 books for children. Educated at Marymount College (B.A.), St. John's University (M.A.), and Hofstra University (professional diploma in reading), Giff has worked as a public elementary school teacher--a career which influenced her decision to create books for children. Her first book, FOURTH GRADE CELEBRITY, was published in 1979; her 1997 novel, LILY'S CROSSING, was named a Newbery Honor Book. Giff has said that LILY'S CROSSING, which is about a girl coming of age during World War II, is her most personal work.
Praise
"This touching story will leave readers pleasantly drained, satisfied with the happy ending, and eager for more about Hollis's future."
From the Publisher
Annotation Abandoned when she was just one hour old, 12-year-old Hollis Woods has lived in succession of foster homes. Now taken in by Josie Cahill, a retired art teacher, Hollis is hiding a secret about her last foster family--the family she hoped would adopt her permanently. A 2003 Newbery Honor book.
First Line This picture has a dollop of peanut butter on one edge, a smear of grape jelly on the other other, and an X across the whole thing. I cut it out of a magazine for homework when I was six years old.
Editors Note After finding the perfect home with Josie, an elderly but forgetful artist, foster child Hollis Woods thinks she has finally found a stable place to hang her hat, but when Social Services decides that Josie may be better off in a home, Hollis won't let her dear friend get wrapped up in the system she despises. A Newbery Honor Book. Read by Hope Davis. Book available.
