Wish I'd seen this miniseries before it is that good. Of course I have since learned that the arches shown in the church at Kingsbridge did not exist in the 12 th century..took a while for them to reach England from Europe proper. Though they call one of the main characters Maud in this series, her real name was Mathilda and she was an Empress by the way. Her son Henry became known to the world as Henry II, Emperor and King. Think Thomas a Beckett. Also, this same Henry II was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine. His son Richard ( the Lion heart ) served in the Crusades and his son John ended up signing Magna Carta in 1215 AD. Royalty in England were not called Your Majesty in England until several centuries later...it was more proper to address a king as My Lord, the King, or Sire.
