Product Overview

BBC natural history producer Alastair Fothergill spent the last ten years producing two of the most stunningly beautiful series ever created, The Blue Planet: Seas of Life and Planet Earth. For the first time, these must-own programs will be offered together in a Special Collector's Set.

Winner of two Emmy Awards (Outstanding Cinematography - Non-Fiction and Outstanding Music Composition for George Fenton's score), The Blue Planet: Seas of Life is the definitive exploration of the marine world, chronicling the mysteries of the deep, coastline populations, sea mammals, tidal and climatic influences, and the complete biological system that relies on and revolves around the world's oceans.

Planet Earth does for the entire world what The Blue Planet: Seas of Life did for the oceans. Using high definition photography and revolutionary ultra-high speed cameras, this is the ultimate portrait of our planet. This truly breathtaking television experience captures rare action, impossible locations and intimate moments with our planet's best-loved, wildest and most elusive creatures.

ReviewSource DVD Verdict
Review [Planet Earth] Simply put, Planet Earth is the new gold standard in nature documentaries. Produced by Alastair Fothergill and the BBC's Natural History Unit as a follow-up to their universally lauded oceanographic series, The Blue Planet, this 11-part examination of the majestic beauty of Earth's remotest landscapes and rarest species is guaranteed to take your breath away. The show offers a whirlwind tour of the planet, sweeping viewers in grand aerial shots from artic tundra to craggy mountains to surging deserts to rainforests and oceans teeming with life. Along the way we get a brand new glimpse of the life-and-death struggle unfolding daily in the wilds of our globe...Like all nature series, each episode of Planet Earth draws its dramatic intensity from the relentless struggle between life and death--and the show is, indeed, dramatically intense. Placid shots of achingly beautiful flora, fauna, and sprawling landscapes are juxtaposed against the never-ending contest between predator and prey. Planet Earth is absolutely riveting, but not for the feint of heart...It is the astounding breadth, scope, and depth of Planet Earth that makes it revolutionary.

Review [Blue Planet] The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, an eight-part BBC documentary on the world's oceans, has been given a fabulous transfer over to the DVD format, resulting in a documentary set that's not to be missed under any circumstances. The series is sold as four individual DVDs, each with two 48-minute episodes; in this review, I'm treating them as a set, because if you like one of them, you will absolutely want to have them all...Perhaps the best way to describe Blue Planet: Seas of Life is as a documentary for intelligent adults. That's not to say that younger viewers won't enjoy or appreciate it, as they most certainly can. It simply means that Blue Planet presents the material for the pure joy of being informed about a vast, fascinating part of the world we live in...Blue Planet: Seas of Life is simply a must-have documentary. It's fabulously interesting material, presented in an extremely polished and well-crafted manner...
