A solid player for those that are NOT on the go!5/1/2006
Well, I must say that PNY makes a very good mp3 player. I can't really think of any major problems, besides the fact that it is NOT for people who exercise alot. Trust me, I know. I'd been joggin' with the thing one day and it fell pretty hard. Screen stopped workin' and all that stuff. Besides that, its a winner. ;)
Great little MP3 Player1/3/2005
PROS - small size, good sound, ease of use, good display, SRS & equalizer, built in USB connection - no cable needed, looks like another hard drive when plugged in to PC. Also, main controls are covered when case is closed - no need to "lock" to prevent accidental contact of switches. CONS - Occasional noise (glitch) in WMA & MP3 music, battery life is 12 or more hours - could be a little longer, comes with a neck strap - a wrist strap would be nice (but maybe difficult because of sliding cover). This is a great little music machine. I have set up my nephews RCA Lyra and I-River MP3 players and both had set up "issues" that the PNY Vibe did NOT have. The I-River had to be plugged in to the USB port at least 6-8 times (every time we used it) before the PC would recognize it. My PNY Vibe has worked EVERY time I have plugged it into a PC to get music. I have used 3 different PC's and Windows Media Player to load music into the Vibe - and had NO problems. I have also downloaded data files between PCs - no problem. It's GREAT not having to use the USB cable that come with it. Just unplug the unit from the battery pack and plug it into your USB port - and you are ready to download music or data. BONUS - yesterday I accidently dropped my Vibe into a sink of water - while it was playing!!!!! I thought I just destroyed it!! No Problem - I just wiped it off and let it "sit" overnight to dry out - and it is working perfectly right now!! I also like the "sleep timer" so you can set it to automatically shut off in 1 to 4 hours. The manual isn't great but does explain things OK. The software is really just for downloading system updates. For the BEST sound, make sure the cables from the earphones face forward from your ear - not down.
A great sounding, good value player, though a litt12/14/2004
I bought this with a rebate at buy.com which brought its price down well below any of its competition in the 512 mb category with or without an equal feature set. Pros: A nice feature rich MP3 player. Good sound quality. Player has a sliding cover that prevents accidental song changes etc. when it is in your pocket. OK earbud headphones Programmable EQ with a couple of special "effects", bass boost, SRS and WOW I think it will support playlists. I haven't gotten there yet...It certainly supports folders. FM tuner/voice recording. Cons: This player is not the easiest to use initially. It took me half of a day to figure out basic functions. The manual is graphically oriented and does not get to such simple things as how to turn the player on until page 17! Not a very intuitive design but, if you are patient with learning your way around the controls, it has fine sound and a lot of useful features (and some not so useful) The general "build" of the player is seemingly pretty sturdy. I do wonder if the sliding cover will wear out eventually. Otherwise I like the sliding cover though.
