From the Publisher:
After wandering out at night to watch a magical star shower, a polar bear cub returns home to snuggle with her mother in their warm den.In this soothing, lyrical bedtime story, a polar bear cub explores her nighttime world and watches a star shower, then returns home to snuggle with her mother. "The simplicity in the art, text, and plot belie the deft craftsmanship, like carving an ice sculpture. This bedtime story will captivate young listeners; it sparkles just like ice crystals on a moonlit night." - Kirkus Reviews, starred review
Annotation:
A polar bear cub leaves its lair and pads out to have a look at "the snow and sky and sea and ice," passing a scattered menagerie of quietly sleeping whales, seals, and walruses on her way to a quiet mountain of snow. The friendly moon seems to be a companion and guide as well as a light source, and repetitive rhythmic phrases in the text underscore the relaxed quality of the bear's outing. A shower of falling stars descends to earth, lighting up "everything the little bear loves." Finally, the moon lights the little bear's return to her mother nestled in their cave. The spare muted-pastel linocut illustrations emphasize a feeling of calm and a complete absence of fear of being alone in darkness.
