Former Marine and CIA agent Jack Morgan inherits his father''s renowned security and detective business--along with a case load that tests him to the breaking point. Getting to the bottom of an NFL gambling scandal and an unsolved LAPD investigation into 18 school girl slayings would be enough. On top of all that, Morgan takes on solving the horrific murder of his best friend''s wife.
As Morgan fights the urge to exact brutal revenge on that killer, he has to navigate a workplace imbroglio that could blow the roof off his elite agency. And it''s an especially explosive situation . . . because the love affair is his own.
Chart-dominating author James Patterson launches a new series (with co-writer Maxine Paetro) with PRIVATE. Jack Morgan is familiar with dangerous and dirty work, having spent years in service of the CIA. That high-level work only partially prepares him for dramatics associated with private detection, however, when he takes over his father's Los Angeles agency. The business is booming, so Morgan jumps on board with a full case load: there's an unsolved multiple murder case, a pro sports gambling mess, and then his best friend's wife gets murdered. Amidst all this work, Morgan's extracurricular romantic entanglements further complicate things. This is classic Patterson--so readers can look forward to satiating their addiction with the sure-to-come sequels, as well as episodes of the television adaptation.
Author Bio
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.
