Sixteen-year-old Shelby finds it difficult to balance her mother''s dying request to live a life without restraint with her father''s plans for his "little princess," which include attending a traditional father-daughter dance that culminates with a ceremonial vow to live "whole, pure lives."
From the Publisher:
Sixteen-year-old Shelby finds it difficult to balance her mother's dying request to live a life without restraint with her father's plans for his "little princess," which include attending a traditional father-daughter dance that culminates with a ceremonial vow to live "whole, pure lives."
A novel about love, loss, and sex -- but not necessarily in that order.

Before her mother died, Shelby promised three things: to listen to her father, to love as much as possible, and to live without restraint. Those Promises become harder to keep when Shelby's father joins the planning committee for the Princess Ball, an annual dance that ends with a ceremonial vow to live pure lives -- in other words, no "bad behavior," no breaking the rules, and definitely no sex.

Torn between Promises One and Three, Shelby makes a decision -- to exploit a loophole and lose her virginity before taking the vow. But somewhere between failed hookup attempts and helping her dad plan the ball, Shelby starts to understand what her mother really meant, what her father really needs, and who really has the right to her purity.
Annotation:
Struggling with promises that she made her dying mother years ago and a new set of promises that her father will soon be asking of her, 17-year-old Shelby finds herself between a rock and a hard place. As a little girl, Shelby's mother made her promise to always listen to her father, love without limits, and set aside restraint for living life to the fullest. But when her father wants her to help him organize a Princess Ball, which includes Shelby vowing to stay pure in all ways, including being a virgin until marriage, the teen is horrified. Knowing that she'll be forced to follow the vows, Shelby decides the obvious answer is to lose her virginity before the ball. Of course, this doesn't go as smoothly as she plans, and Shelby learns about love, friendship, and family.
