Jerry Pinkney
Jerry Pinkney's talent as an artist earned him a scholarship to the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. After graduation he worked as a designer for a greeting card company. Pinkney published his first picture book for children, THE ADVENTURES OF SPIDER: A WEST AFRICAN FOLK TALE, in 1964. In 1986 he won the Coretta Scott King Award for his illustrations for THE PATCHWORK QUILT; the following year he won the award again for HALF MOON AND ONE WHOLE STAR. His illustrations for THE TALKING EGG earned a 1988 Caldecott Honor. In 1989, his illustrations for MIRANDY AND BROTHER WIND led to that book being named a Caldecott Honor Book and winning the Coretta Scott King Award.
