Good for the price
The unit arrived undamaged but there was a small plastic circle that sticks to the outside of the screen that had fallen off. The circle is cosmetic to cover up a plastic mold injection point and was easily stuck back on with a little more glue. The plastic build material does seem a little cheap/rigid but for the price it works. I was also surprised that we received 2 remote controls and 2 instruction pamphlets with the unit, probably a mix up at the factory. The installation we easy and straightforward as we replaced the front overhead dome light with the player. Because we replaced the dome light I wished the built in lights faced the opposite direction but overall they still provide a decent amount of light. The metal mounting plate is sturdy but the screws that come with the unit are very short and did not work for our installation. The headliner pushed the unit down a 1/4" so I needed to pickup some longer screws at the hardware store. The first set of #8 screws I bought didn't want to screw in quite right so went back to the hardware store and picked up metric ones that worked perfect. The player seems plenty bright and has a good number of adjustments to tweak to your preferance. The screen is nice and big and even the kids in the back row of our 12 seat Chevy van can easily watch the movie without straining their eyes. Going over bumps does not cause any playback problems. The built in speakers are decent and provide enough volume for the kids sitting in the first two rows of seats, but I would still recommend wireless headsets; the ones from our other van (05' Dodge Caravan) worked with this unit. Being able to tilt and swivel the unit is also nice when the sun is setting and coming through a side window. Overall we are very pleased and it keeps the kids occupied for hours on long trips.
